Mountain Buffalo
the world's largest tuber plant

This species, which still awaits identification, is very likely the world's largest tuber plant. The tuber can grow hundreds of years old and more than 100 kg heavy. It lives in the mountains of Yunnan where the species is very rare. The tubers are resembling resting buffalos when seen from the distance in dense forest, hence their name.

The Mountain Buffalo belongs to the family of Cucurbitaceae and makes cute yellow flowers. Most spectacular is its speed of growth during spring time: the vine can shoot up more than 1 meter per day and can easy cover a house or a fence in a few weeks. If you need to get some ugly fence or cement structure out of sight quickly, this is your plant. Also, for the design of courtyards, open air arenas, restaurant gardens, and any large area which you want to get covered quickly, this is the most efficient plant , and the large tuber is a great piece of designer art as well.

The species is further used in local medicine to cure stomach illness of the lower intestines and gastric ulcer.

It is our goal to protect this species for the future, hence, we have started a seed and tuber production program with local farmers in the mountain areas. Write to us if you wish to import mature tubers.

Most important: herbal medicine is designed not only to heal but more prominently to make sure that the disease will not have any chance to attack you in the first place.
